Is living in Japan for 11 years now. Is a student of Okada Michiaki, a student of the famous Yokoyama Katsuya.
Yokoyama Katsuya style of the Kinko school of shakuhachi.
He received his Master's degree from Osaka University in the Graduate School of Human Sciences, researching the shakuhachi in music sociology. Currently a Phd candidate their and has published articles as well

Is a friend of Ishikawa Toshimitsu's "Ishi no Kai"
In August and September of 2006 with his tent he walked the entire Shikoku 88 temple's pilgrimage (1400k) performing/offering songs at all of the temples.
In June of 2008, he took 2nd place in the Young Player's Competition at the World Shakuhachi Festival in Sydney, Australia.
In November 2008, he released his solo CD "Sound of the White Phoenix- Hakuho-on", a combination of traditional komuso pieces and originals.
February 2009, recognized as the official "Master Performer" by Taimadera temple, Nakanobo, often performing in their traditional and religious events.
May 2009, second CD "Kurofune" released with Izukawa Hidefumi. Shakuhachi duets as well as songs with synthesizer and electro-acoustic music.
Josh performs mostly in Nara, Kansai and the Hokuriku area, as well as teaches at 2 locations in Nara in either Japanese or English. His home dojo (school) is the "Taima Dojo" located along the Kintetsu Minami Osaka line, a 7-min walk from Taimadera station (30min from Osaka)
He also teaches in Nara City, in the traditional neighborhood of Naramachi. Lessons are held in the traditional cafe's culture rooms at Naracafe Youan.
